Rachel was a ladybug this year, and Garry got to be Spiderman. It was great. These pictures (below) are from a tot trick or treat I took them to a couple of weeks ago, I forgot the camera tonight. They were adorable.
This morning I made pancake batter and colored it orange, then daddy made pancake jack-o-lanterns, bunnies, & turtles. Little Garry specifically requested a
scary faced pumpkin, he politely turned down the first one I offered him because it looked too nice.
We went to the District (an outdoor mall) for the costume parade and trick or treating at 5. It was huge and packed tight. The kids loved seeing all of the other costumes. Rachel was difficult in that she wouldn't look up. She just stared at the candy in her bucket and wandered off in any old direction. We had to chase her down over and over. Garry said to me, "Mom! Look at all of the witches everywhere!" They really loved seeing all of the other kids' costumes. The bucket was getting heavy and Rachel was getting tired, so we tried to help her by holding her bucket. Bad idea. She gripped that bucket handle with both hands and yelled at us loudly if we tried to lift it for her.
At 6 we went to the ward Trunk-or-Treat. There were a LOT of cars there with many of them decorated. Our car wasn't decorated. In fact, I didn't even open the trunk because it had a bunch of water bottles and random stuff in it.
We got home at 7 and the kids
finally got to eat their candy. We gave them each a sandwich bag and helped them fill it with whatever candy they chose. Then they put the rest of the candy back in the buckets and left them on the porch for the pumpkin fairy. About 5 minutes later the pumpkin fairy came, took the extra candy, and left in it's place a present for each kid. (This year, they each got two brand new Hotwheels.) The pumpkin fairy rang the doorbell so we knew when to check. Both kids were very pleased with their toys and didn't mind giving up the extra candy. They are right now downstairs eating all of the candy that they had put in their baggies, playing with their cars, and watching the Halloween Charlie Brown show with daddy.
Speaking of Daddy, I told him a couple of weeks ago that I would give him $20 if he could go a whole week without added sugar (candy, cake, soda) because I though the would never be able to do it. Last Sunday he started, and tonight is his final sugar free night. He totally did it and didn't even have a sugar crash or anything. He's looking forward to his $20. Talk about self discipline, sheesh.
