Tribute to President Hinkley

In one of many tributes to President Hinkley that I have received over the past few days this is one that I want to pass on to all of you. It is a quote by Elder Boyd K. Packer:

You are indeed, a royal generation and I know that the powers of the adversary will work harder on you than he has ever worked in the history of mankind. It is hard to be strong as a youth in todays society but it will be even harder to raise a strong family. There is no room for "almost" following the prophet. You have been blessed with wonderful parents who have made great sacrifice and effort to bring you up in truth and light. You have a huge task ahead of you but you are equal to the task. I love you all. I am so grateful that it was our privelage to live in the time of President Hinkley and to have been blessed by his leadership and guidance. We will continue to be blessed by a living prophet and we must continue to follow where he leads.

Funny Girl

So yesterday I took Lydia to enrichment with me and she was so cranky for the first 1/2 of it. Then she found someone's red fluffy scarf on the ground next to their coat and she LOVED it. She picked it up and wraped it around her neck and just walked around with it on. When it fell off she picked it back up and wraped it around her neck again. She didnt care about anything else but playing with that scarf. I even took it away from her and put it back, she didnt get mad, she just walked back over and picked it up again. IT was so funny.
And as for the pig tales, I did them my self. She was so good, I gave her a bath then got her dressed adn when her hair was still slightly wet I set in her in bucket seat and we were watching music man, and I gave her a toy. She sat so still, and was so good, never complained, and it STILL took me 10 mins. :) And her hair was CRAZY today when she woke up. :) I couldnt get ti to lay back down.

Crowell Family Update

I just thought I would do my yearly update on Kody and I. Let’s see… Kody and I are living in Salt Lake right now so Kody can attend school. Kody started his second semester at medical school, so far it hasn’t been so bad he has only had about one test a week these past weeks, but that will soon change. Besides school he is currently working on a research grant proposal for research in general surgery. If he gets this grant he will be able to do intensive research this summer pertaining to surgery. He also gets to job shadow this semester a surgeon. Currently I am working as an administrator for critical care and cardiovascular services at the University of Utah hospital. I know I didn’t get my degree in this but an opportunity arose for this position and I was really lucky to get it. It’s a great experience thus far; I have a lot to learn. It can been frustrating when you don’t know all of the hospital lingo so when they start telling stuff about the NCC, SICU or CCU ( I swear they put everything in acronym form) it can get confusing. It is also great that the medical school is right next to the hospital so Kody and I can carpool and have lunch together everyday. It will also be fun when he starts doing his rounds in the critical care units, I will be able to see him a lot. We are both on the activities committee for our ward and just love the activities committee chairman or should I say chairwoman ;) That is about all that is going on in our lives right now. SUPRISE

I don't know if it's a boy or a girl yet. We've been holding out on everyone. I don't know when I'm due yet either, we'll have to just wait till I can get in to the doctors office. We have to wait till we get our medicaid straightened out. But I'm decently far along. I'll post a picture later today when I can get my camera out of the car. But if I had to guess due date I'm going to say june or july. SUPRISE!

City of Joseph

The City of Joseph is comming to Pocatello. IT will be a free preformance in the institute building, but the thing I'm most excited about is it's MY STAKE that is putting it on. Brother Bench directed it in Nauvoo, and he is a high councilmen in our stake. Adutions are all through Janurary. I auditioned today. Everyone who wants to be in it is in it, and cast will be decided Feb 1 after all the auditions are complete. But I will be playing my Banjo. They needed a banjo player for one scene, and I am (as far as I know) the only one in the stake. And Lydia is going to make her Musical Theater Debut in The City of Joseph. She was just along for teh ride, but they asked if she coudl be in it. It will be preformed April 3, 4, 5, 10, 11 & 12. Free admition for anyone who lives close enough to come. ...well it's free for everyone, but eats a hole in your pocket book if you have to buy a plane ticket to go see it :) I'm very excited. It's going to be so fun.

Wo is me!

Poor little me! The coldest weather we have had all year and my furnace went out! Grandpa worked on it last night trying to weld a spot where all of the refrigerant leaked out and in doing so he burned his eyes. He looks like he has a bad hang over- I guess, I have never seen anyone with a hang over:) Garry is here now (so they can both have burned eye-balls)
Yesterday I couldn't get on line (my Juno account wouldn't connect) With help from Caroll to find my juno telephone numbers I got on line through Internet Explorer, found the juno web sight, followed the instructions and fixed the problem myself. Are you all proud of me? (I'm proud of myself!!!!)

Just for you Grandma!

Some of you may know but if you don't, Nickle and I found out we are having a "little stinker." I should be due in September. Our plans of right now are staying here in DC. It will be nice to have Nickle around during the pregnancy and here for the birth. Nickle is pretty sure we are having a boy. Well I think he is just scared to show his soft side if we have a little girl. We are looking at moving to a new apartment. So hopefully we can find some thing in a nice safe area. Hope all is well with everyone!

For all you Parents out there

K So I just found the coolest website...well more like the coolest idea. It's a tracking board for your little munchkins food intake. If you buy it from www.chickinfeed.com then they're $30. But I'm pretty sure you could make one for at least a third of that price. Espically if your talented like our family is.

What it is : It's a magnetic chart that you put on your fridge. It has two collumns, one for what you need, one for what you've had. (I'm even going to do this for myself). Then in each column you have how many servings per day you need with little magnets that you move from column to column. So if you had a small bowl of cereal for breakfast you move over 3-5 magnets. 2-3 magnets (depending on your cereal bowl) move from need to have on grains & 1-2 on Calcium/Dairy. And it only keeps track of one day so each day is a new chance to do things that are good for you! Not to mention if your kids are a little older they can get involved in better healty habbits.

Catagories : On the board there is lists of things that should be eaten or done that day. Here's what the board that you can buy has.

Grains/Bread/Pasta, Veggies, Fruits, Calcium/Dairy, Protien (fish/meat/beans), Activity (running, jumping, playing), & Extras/Sweets

You can click on the picture and zoom in to get a better view on what they have. But when I make mine I'm probably going to add Water and Chores as well to the list. It really is amazing. Let me know if anyone makes one cause I want to see what their's will look like.

And the last picture was sunday after Grandma and Grandpa left. we went to a friends house and she put Lydias hair in pig tales, it was so cute. there are a few more pictures of llydias pig tales, but they are in the Lydia album, the link is to the 1st birthday album, but I think you can look at the other ones. Lydia loved her monkey. She was hyper from the cup cake and was attacking it... for an hour. IT was fun, but I dont think I'll be giving her a whole cup cake again any time soon. It took all 4 of us to keep up with her. We got a video of her attacking it, but I couldnt get it to upload. I've tried several times and I can't get it to work. Lydai's birthday isnt till the 29, but we figured 2 weeks early was close enough.

Cheyenne

Most of you know this, but some may not. Trevor had a little girl Saturday morning. It remains to be seen how much we will be allowed in her life.

The First Week

Well, I have officially finished my first week of this semester. This semester is going to be a lot better than the last. Last semester was rather boring. Not much of a social life. But I have some really good friends that are here this semester that I'm going to be spending a lot of time with. We have already done quite a few things together. I went to their ward prayer with them last night, and I didn't realize how boring my ward was until last night when I saw a really fun ward. But I have some really cool classes this semester too. And luckily, the work load really isn't that horrible. I have the first part of the New Testament, Intermediate Social Dance, Advanced Mandarin, Intro to Humanities in Asia, and a Chinese Philosophy class. It's all really fun. And I've applied for study abroad this fall in Nanjing China. I have an interview on Thursday where they want to get to know me and know why I want to go and all of that stuff. I'm so excited about it.
Tonight was a lot of fun. My mission president is leaving on another mission Wednesday morning. They are going to be in Beijing China. The name for their position is a "China Administrative Unit". They aren't allowed to wear name tags or anything like that. Apparently all of the branches there in China can only have native people in positions of leadership. Because most of them are fairly new converts, this makes it hard for them. So most of what Pres and Sis Zhou are going to be doing is leadership training. They also said that if there is one member in the family, they can have gospel conversations and share the gospel with them. So they will also be able to be a part of that. Pres Zhou talked to us and was talking about China and that in the future, mission presidents are going to be a lot younger than they are now. He said that as he looked at us, he could picture us sitting on the stand at church, presiding at meetings, and basically being the leaders of the Church there in China. It was just really cool. None of it was really new (except for finding out about what their mission call entails), but it was still just a lot of fun to be reminded of what the Lord has in store. It was great fun to see all of my friends from the mission. Hehe, I don't think that Pres Zhou knows how to talk to us without trying to get us all married off. And not just to anyone, he's all about setting us up with each other. It's really funny. One of my companions married a sister from our mission (Her dad just so happens to be the mission president of the Tulsa, OK mission too) and he likes to use them as an example for us. :) It's funny. Anyway, I had a great time tonight and just thought that I would share that with everyone else too. I'll update you in a few weeks when I find out wither or not I'm accepted to the study abroad program.

PS: Sorry I don't have any fun pictures like everyone else does. I don't know how many times I have been reminded that I need to get married in just the past few days! I'm working on it! Hehe :)

Guess what we had for Dinner

I got my wisdom teeth out yesterday, yes, all four of them. And it was suprisingly teh best dentist visit I've had sicne i got my teeth cleaned...maybe even better. cause I was totally ASLEEP For the whole thing. Well most of it. I woke up 3 times durring the surgery. And that was weird. But recovery was really easy. And I feel great, a little swollen, but not much worse then having a big pop corn kernal stuck in my gums. So I needed somethign soft for dinner so we had spagetti adn meat balls, and Lydia as you can see LOVED it. That was only 1/2 way through teh meal by the way, She was MUCH red-er, pretty much every where.
And today si our anniversary, we have been married for 4 years, and it really has gone by very fast. We love and miss everyone!

Rachel's Blessing

Today we blessed Rachel. It was so great. Mom and Dad were here and Keith was here and it was just really great. We thought we'd post some pictures from the special event. We wish more of you could have been there. We love you.

Coolest members of the family (Nickle's idea to say)

Yah! We finally figured out how to get on here. Well we just wanted everyone to know that we are doing great in Washington DC. I am working at a school in Arlington, VA and Nickle is busy working at the Marine Barracks. We had a really fun Christmas together. We were both excited like little kids because we got up at 3 in the morning... Well I thought I would post our picture that we got with the president a few months ago. It was a neat experience. We hope everyone else had a great Christmas and New Year and we miss everyone!
