Day at the Zoo

Today I went to the zoo with a bunch of my aunts and cousins. Taylor, Hunter, and Connor were there too. Afterwards we went to the park to eat lunch and play in the sprinklers. Wes had a blast! He also went swimming at Grandma's pool yesterday with Sydnie. Also...this is random but I just finished my first cake decorating class and this is my cake. It was fun!

Letter from Elder Goldhardt

Here is a letter from Tom my mom got, I thought it was pretty funny so I thought I would share it!

Hey mom, we got to play basketball for a couple hours and we're done now and i've got a little time left so i thought i would tell you a story i forgot to tell you. So a couple days ago we were tracting and we go up to a door with some cut out pictures of a guy without his shirt on so the first thing i thought was we were going to talk to some gay guys. So we knock on the door and a lady opens it and right away says come on in, then she walks away. So me and E. Rogers just look at each other like what the heck. Then she comes back and says it again, come on in come on hurry, so i hurry and say is there a male here? and then she walks away. So we take a step into the house and can hear women laughing so we are like oh no what is going on and then all of the sudden the lady comes back all dissapointed with her head down and said "oh sorry i guess you guys aren't the strippers, if you could shut the door on the way out that would be great." I couldn't stop laughing hahah it was a pretty awkward moment. There is your story for the week

Love ya Elder Goldhardt

Xander Did It!!!

It's about time! Today Xander took his first steps. He's been able to do it, he's just a scardy cat. Today he walked three steps. He could have walked more, but he got to his destination so he didn't need too. The moment he was done he got so much praises from mom...He smiled SO big....and he had no idea that he had just walked. Hu? Go figure.

Check it out!

If you haven't already, you need to go to Keith and Janet's blog and check out the pictures of Nickle and Ashley's beach front! Also the fun stuff Nickle got at a garage sale would make you guys ready to pack your bags and go see them just to go to a garage sale.

I wish we had a picture of grandpa and the boys playing in the mud! Grandpa got the dozer stuck all the way up to it's belly in sticky, slick, mud and they worked all day long trying to get it out! On the other hand, I think this has been one experience some of us would just as soon forget!

Grandpa Can fix ANYTHING

So I have two banjo's , This banjo that I took apart is the first one I had. It never had a really great sound to it and it was missing a few pieces. So in exchange for teaching Hyrum banjo Mom and Dad are helping me fix it up. I got the pieces i need in the mail on Friday and I took it apart to clean it.
I took it apart all by my self...and it was really fun. :) This is the pot, or the rim, or the body of the banjo. This is what it looked like before I cleaned it.
This is after it was all put together and tuned (the pictures are a little out of order)

This is the top after it was all put together. But what you can't see is HOW it was fixed. Notice the chrome rim all the war around the drum head? Well that is how it is suppose to look. But when I started taking it apart I noticed that it didn't look quiet right. That's cause the hoop was 1/2 inch too big. The purpose of this hoop is to hold the drum head on and the hooks all around the side give it even tension, and better sound. Well no wonder I didn't have good sound. I couldn't get even tension cause the hoop hung off one side.
So I took it to Grandpa's yesterday cause Grandpa can fix anything. And now he can add banjo repair man to his list. Thanks Grandpa! He cut it and welded it to the right size. And it actually looks better then it did before I started. The original weld was crooked and lumpy. Grandpas weld is PERFECT. See, I bet you can't even tell where it is. :)
Then after he fixed my hoop I went to piece it all together with my brand new hooks. Well they were shaped a little wrong. The post was straight and it needed a slight bend. So Grandpa to the rescue! He took them to his jewelers bench and bent all 20 to fit PERFECTLY. Not only that but they all look uniform. You can't tell that there were home bent and not factory bent :) (this is also the after picture of me cleaning my pot, it looks like a totally different banjo!)

So today I put the strings back on and got it all fixed up and looking good. But when you put strings on an instrument they stretch a little bit. So it takes a while to get it perfectly in tune. You have to retune it several times. Well as I was tuning it my 5th string peg broke. Well not the whole thing, just the part you put your fingers on. It screws on and holds the tension so teh string stays in tune. But now I still can't play it totally cause the 5th string broke.
I complained to a banjo group on line about music shops not knowing anything about banjo repair and a guy said he has tons of extra buttons that will fit my tuning peg and he is sending me 3 tomorrow free of charge. HOARY! All and all buying the initial banjo and all the parts $85 has gone into it, and it's turning out to be a decent banjo!
