Back to the Grind

Well, this is the first week of School, and we're back at it again. Thankfully I've actually got some computer classes this semester, not just Math pre-requisite stuff. It's nice to be learning something that's remotely interesting. It's nice to have computers in the classroom too. I don't even bring paper to class because I just take notes on the computer. The school has a network share setup where I can store all of my notes for my different classes, and access them from any of the computers at the school. So I take notes on a different computer every day, but I always have my notes and my assignments with me wherever I go. It's pretty nice. I don't know if it's just the IT staff at SUU, but nobody speaks very good English around here. All of my instructors have thick accents, even my Math professor. The worst is in my Java Programming class. The teacher sometimes goes so fast, and talks so un-understandibly, that people easily get lost. He just starts putting code up on the board and doesn't say what it is, just expects you to copy it down as he writes. The problem is, you can't always tell what is being written. I think it's more luck than anything when the program comes out right. At least it's a fairly easy class. Even though I can't understand the instructor, I think it'll be fun. I've wanted to learn a programming language for a long time. There is one class this semester that I don't even have to take. The class is designed to help you get your A+ certification, and since I've already got it, I don't have to go. I went in to talk to the instructor and he gave me the syllabus and told me to check back in a couple of weeks to see if there's anything else important about that class that I need to know. I just have to take the test and it's a pass/fail for an A. Not too shabby if you ask me. I think this semester is going to be alright.

So I made one of thoes moby wraps I told you about a couple days ago. I had some extra fabric so I wanted to see hwo comfortable it was and I didnt have a car adn I had a party to go to yesterday adn needed to ride my bike, so I made one to carry Lydia while I rode. And mine was just over 13 feet and today I'm gettign fabric to make a good one and It's going to be 15 feet. so it will be easier to tie. So if you are making one you need either 3 yards of 60 inches wide or 5 1//2 yards of at least 32 inches wide. The finished product is about 15 inches wide and 15 feet long (I'm going to taper the ends to make it easier to tie) But if you decide to make one and have questions let me know, it only took 45 mins, including distractions)

We finally got these pictures framed. They look really nice in our front room. Some day they will look nice in Keith's apartment, but not yet. If he were to put them up this semester it would take up almost his entire wall ;)

By they way Aunt Terri. Just want to send you a great big thank you for picking up Keith at the Airport and transporting him down to Provo. I know it is a sacrifice to take that much time out of your schedule to haul your nephews down to Provo and return home again and I just want you to know how much we appreciate being able to rely upon you for the Goldhardt Taxi Service.

"T" shirt contest

I thought I would make a suggestion. Several posts back Grandma suggested having a contest for designing the "T" shirts for our reunion. Perhaps we should have a "T" shirt design posting on the blog. Start with a suggestion and then get all the creative juices flowing with comments about how to improve upon the first suggestion.

1. Last year, when Keith got home from his mission we did "family T shirts" using baseball style "T's". I like that style of shirt, but I also like "pocket T's". Are there any other T shirt styles that some of you like better?
2. Another suggestion is to have all the same design on the back of the T shirt, but have different colors for each family (ie. Herb & Terri clan, Garry & Melissa clan, Keith & Janet clan, Mike & Ann clan, and the Weston & Caroll clan)
3. Do we have a "Theme" for this reunion? Grandma has used various themes throughout the years (ie. the treasure hunt/treasure chest, the light house, etc...). If we decide on a theme it will be much easier to come up with a design for the shirts that goes along with it.

Then again, do we want to try and come up with a theme or should we leave that to the "teacher"? Just a thought. It's open for suggestions :)

Lilly stories

No pictures, but funny story I thought I would share.

Lilly started school this year. She doesn't want to buy the school lunch so we have to fix her a lunch each morning. We bought some drink boxes of juice for her lunches and the other day after school she wanted one to drink for a snack. Melissa told her NO, and she wasn't real happy about that. She went off to her room to consider the situation. A few minutes later she came back into the living room with a wide rimmed straw hat on her head. She walked trough the front room and went straight to the fridge. She opened the door and a minute later she was walking through the front room holding on to the wide rim of her straw hat, pulling it down tight to her head (there was obviously a square object inside her hat cause you could see it's outline).

As she was passing through the living room, Melissa told her to stop. She then told Lilly to put the drink box back in the fridge. Lilly just stood there, frozen. A look of disgust on her face. She stared Melissa down without blinking an eye. In the end Melissa won. She took it back. She came back in the room after putting the box away and told her mom that one day she would grow up and be a Mom. She would buy drink boxes and put them in the fridge and when Melissa came over and took one she would tell her to "Put it back"!

Dr. Kody Crowell

Well its official Kody is officially a medical student. Last Friday Kody had his White Coat Ceremony, where the Dean of the med school gives all the students their first white coat and their stethoscope. I can’t say Kody has loved med school thus far but he is enjoying it, it is a lot of work for him, but he can do it.

New Room, New Car, New Size

While I was in Missouri (...over a month ago) I decided to redecorate my mom's guestroom that I am going to be staying in when I come home before Todd. It doesn't have the adorable animals like Sheri's room for Gary, but I think it turned out quite nice. I also bought a new car. It's a 2007 Honda Civic and gets 40 mpg on the hwy, which will come in handy driving back and forth between Fordland (where we'll be staying once Todd comes home) and Morrisville. It was pretty hard to leave it and come back to the 97 civic we have here that almost dies on us at every stop light. The fat picture of me was taken last week at 6 months. You can probably tell by my fake smile that I'm not too happy I've already gained over 25 lbs. and still have three months to grow :)

Watermelon thief

This is one sad post!! (almost as sad as Sheir's last one) I have had watermelons growing just over my deck. I have watched them all summer long and even picked one when Terri's family was here (still pink inside) I finally decided they were ready but would not pick them until Sat so the family could all enjoy them on our Sunday "D&D" night. Well, one picture is worth a thousand words. The animals found the watermelons were ripe at the same time I did and wiped out the entire patch. I looked out the window and saw the rear end of a chipmunk sticking out of one of my watermelons. He ate it from the inside out. Nasty little chipmunk!

The first three pictures are of Baby Garry's bedroom. It's my venture into the land of decorating. Huzzah. The animals are cute little wooden ones we got from the craft store and painted. Cute, huh? Why thank you. (I'm assuming you are proud of my domesticity and pleased with my efforts.)

As to the other pictures...Those aren't lipstick marks on his face. No no, my friend, that's a BITE mark. He loves to go to the library with me because there are always lots of other little kids to play with. Well today there was this cute little boy about a month younger than him that came up and gave him a hug. We, the mothers, stood by smiling lovingly as our boys hugged. Then all of a sudden Baby Garry starts SCREAMING. I separate them and this other little kid is ATTATCHED to Garry's face. The blood was all gone from the area and there was this huge bite mark. I felt so bad for him. He felt pretty betrayed. It only broke the skin a little but he's got a bit bite in his face now. Poor little guy. Afterwards he was really wary of that kid. The mom felt really bad, but what do you do? Kids bite sometimes. If I had a cheek that soft in my mouth I would be tempted to chomp on it too...

Moby Wrap

You guys ever heard of a MobyWrap? It's like a baby sling that you can wrap a coupel different ways to carry your baby. up to 35 lbs. I already emailed this to Rissy and Sheri, but I realized I have lots of cousins that could benifit from this too. I saw one of my freinds wearing it the other day and thought it was cool. Her friend made hers for her instead of buying one. I'de explain it but it'd be easier to check out the website. http://www.mobywrap.com/index.php And if anyone is intreasted in making one I can get the dementions from her. She said you just use strechy fabric, probably knit. On line they are $35, but you can make one for super cheap. Check it out, they are kinda cool.

This is the place where I was when I realized the water was going so fast that I couldn't keep my balance. I don't know if the hole was there when I was there or not, but the size and depth of the hole shows you how swift it was rushing to cut such a pit right there.

Thought I would send a few pictures of our flood this morning. It was the worst we have had in years. Keith and Janet found some of their gold fish swiming in they yard, Caroll still hasn't found all of their cows, and half of our dam (spelled with one m) is in the fire pit area. I went out this morning to find grandpa and couldn't get back across the fast flowing river that was raceing across my driveway. I was honestely stranded for about an hour and there was no way I could get across the water! Someone ask for rain yesterday in the opening prayer at church, I think we had better not call on him again for a while!!! I am on slow dial up today and so I am not sure if I can get these pictures to download. If not, I'll send them when Grandpa comes home with the cell. (if he can get home! We don't have a driveway!!!!) The water was going over the top of the dam about 3 feet at its highest point. The driveway around the dam was rushing as much as the waterfall.

Built in Garbage Disposal

Well Xander is making good progress, He just rolled over a few days ago, and now he's had his first tast of solid food.

I just finished giving Mikey his dinner, and then I fixed Xander some rice cereal. This is his third time eathing it.

1/2 way through feeding Xander Mikey came up and started smacking his lips. I didn't think he would like it cause it was so bland, so I let him try it. He didn't want to stop.


Poor Xander didn't get to finish his food cause Mikey ate it all. So I made a little more cause Xander was still hungry. Mikey steeling a few bites here and there.



When it was gone, Mike took the spoon and stuck it in his mouth. Then he decided Xander wasn't done eating, so he stuck the spoon in Xanders mouth.

I sent this out as an email to everyone I think, but thought I would make double sure everyone received it.. the only one I heard back from was Jamie. (thanks Jamie!) So I guess you either all agree, or havn't decided yet.

Dear Family,
Most of you are already aware that Grandma has asked us to plan a family reunion where all her posterity will attend. We figured it we planned well enough in advance we could all plan our family vacations around that date and shoot for having 100% attendance.
Terri, Garry, Keith, Ann and Caroll have talked about it and have come up with these ideas.
FIRST of all, it seems silly to have it in SLC. Yes it would be fun. But our family memories are based on Grandma and Grandpa's place in MO. AND we would have to find less lodging for weary travelers.
So here is the official plan. Year 2009, 1st or 2nd week in July (when 2009 rolls around we will firm up the date) for 3 day (probably a Wed. Thurs. and Friday) At Grandma and Grandpa's. We can pitch as many tents as needed. You can vacation on your way there, after the 3 days. or even stay on after the planned activities. Just be sure to plan on being at Grandma's and Grandpa's those 3 days.
Details on the activities are in the works, and any suggestions are welcome!

SECOND, We are starting a fund for the reunion now. A savings account has been set up for this purpose. We are asking each head of family to send $5.00 a month. Heads of family means each child or grandchild that is married or living on their own. Students and Missionaries are exempt. Starting in Sept. send your donation to Terri. 2830 So. Adams St. SLC, UT 84115
Getting this savings account going now will mean we have plenty of money for food, family history, tee-shirts, and anything else Grandma would like to do.
IF you would rather send your donation for the year, or every six months so you don't have to write out a check every month that is okay too. We just thought $5.00 a month wouldn't break anyones budget.
Many more details will follow, just remember to mark your calendars and start sending Terri your monthly donations!

Arent we so blessed

I got this forward today. It said "Have you had a hard time getting to the temple lately" I Opened it up and looked at the photos and read the story but when I saw the temple I felt the beauty of it so strong. I feel so blessed to have a temple so close and to be able to go to it easily. I feel so blessed to have been able to make our family a forever family in it. I hope you enjoy this and appriciate the temple more because of it.

only 6 1/2 months

She got a high chair this week. She loves her chair and loves teh box it came in even more.
This is how I found her when she woke up from her nap yesterday. I think she is going to be an early walker.
Not even a week ago Lydia started pulling her self up to the furniture but she could only get up to her knees. And the first time she got up on her feet was 2 days ago. She loves to walk, if you hold her hands she is wobbly but will walk all over the room. She has some friends at church her age that are still working on rolling over. She just barely got crawling dow really good and the day she got that she learned how to sit up with out bracing her self, and to pull her self up, and she is starting to do the Mogley crawl from jungle book when she goes in the kitchen. WE now have to keep all doors closed and we are in desprate need of a gate this weekend. I already had to move teh DVD and VCR up totally out fo reach. We definately have our hands full.
